Also know as “enlightenment period”

· there exist a humanistic movement and secular movement

· Its ideas are against previous / traditional believes

· do not accept the power of the church

· believed that one’s self –esteem and status is through education.

· Knowledge though education is a powerful strength to set one free from discrimination

· Religion, philosophy, arts, education and status in society shape a respectable individual.



Changes from Baroque
Era to Classic Era


Introduce paintings in bright colours, contour shapes as fine arts.

The development for music changes when J.S. Bach died.


Music in the Enlightenment Era

No boundaries in nation and race.

The music is controlled and entertaining.

Not complex with appropriate expression.

Gives a calm and relaxed feeling for the listeners.


Music Style in the Classic Era

Combination of 2 styles


1. Gallant style/Rococo from France

- sophisticated, simple, amusing and full

of ornaments.

2. Sensitive style from Germany

- emphasize on expressive elements

through dynamics.
